AgriFoSe2030 Director receives prize for combating poverty and malnutrition in low-income countries

Ulf Magnusson, Director of AgriFose2030 and Professor of animal reproduction at SLU has received The Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry finest prize. He was awardeds the prize for his determined and successful work to highlight the importance of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in combating poverty and malnutrition in low-income countries.

The prize was handed over by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria at the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (KSLA) on January 28, 2019.  KSLA states that Ulf Magnusson has purposefully and successfully worked on highlighting the importance of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in combating poverty and malnutrition in low-income countries and in combating the spread of diseases and drug-resistant microorganisms between animals and humans.
 
In addition to his own successful research in animal reproduction and global infectious disease issues, Ulf Magnusson has had several assignments regarding research and development collborations between Sweden and low-income countries.

Ulf Magnusson has skillfully introduced Swedish expertise in collaborations with international organizations in the field of animal health, such as the International Livestock Research Institute, and also in the collaboration with FAO on the highlighted issue of antibiotic resistance in animal husbandry.

About the price

The Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry's prize "A.W. Bergstens' prize" is awarded to a person who, through outstanding scientific work, successful teaching activities or comparable efforts in the practical field, has contributed to arousing hope and interest in agriculture or the associated industry and thereby deserving of such award. The prize, that has been awarded since 1922, consists of money and a medal of 18k gold and can be awarded annually from the A.W. Bergsten Foundation
