At the turn of the year, the Department of Work Science, Business Economics and Environmental Psychology will change its name. Out of the winter darkness emerges the Department of People and Society.
- Already at the beginning of 2020, we knew there had to be a name change. And during the autumn, we have worked together to develop a new name that reflects the fantastic diversity we work with, says head of department Christina Lunner Kolstrup.
The map has been redrawn
The previous name covered the original three subject areas at the department. In 2020, the departement was changed to include Environmental psychology, the new subject Business management and Swedish Centre for Agricultural Business Management. SLU RådNu in Skara was incorporated into the department and Alnarp's Rehabilitation Garden was transferred to the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science, LTV.
- When the map was drawn on January 1st 2020, it was also time to change a long and hard-to-handle department name, says Christina Lunner Kolstrup.
To engage and involve the employees in the work, the department's management chose to bring in professional help, the communications agency Södra tornet. During workshops, various name suggestions came up. External and internal stakeholders were interviewed about the name proposals, before the dean, after consultation with the vice-chancellor, decided on the name change.
Dean Håkan Schroeder, at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science is positive about the new name.
- The department is responsible for important pieces of the puzzle in the faculty's operational profile. People are in focus in different ways within the department, which the new name clarifies. The name can be criticized for being broad, but as I see it, it signals new thinking for the continued development of the department. The fact that the name is now possible to remember for a wider circle without thinking can be seen as a significant improvement, says Håkan Schroeder.
