Welcome to a webbinar on February 2 13.00 with Dr Albert De Vries, Professor in Dairy Science at University of Florida. Dr Albert De Vries will talk about replacement strategies and effects on both profitability and the environmental footprint of dairy production. This presentation will be followed by three short presentations and a discussion in Swedish. The last day to sign up is 28th of January.

The seminar is arranged by the research program "Sustainable diets from sustainable production systems - Focus milk".

How and when cows are replaced with heifers has major effects on both profitability and the environmental footprint of dairy production. In this presentation, Alberts De Vrie will focus on the trade-off between productive lifespan, genetic improvement, environmental footprint, and profitability.

He will also present recent scientific work on ranking cows for replacement so that better informed replacement decisions can be made on the farm and also share early results of practical implementation of these rankings on farm. In the second part of his presentation he will discuss how increased reproductive efficiency may affect culling and replacement rates.

After Alberts De Vries' presentation, Annica Hansson (Växa Sverige & SLU), Freddy Fikse (Växa Sverige) and Åse Arnbratt (Arla foods) will give short presentations and finally, there will be a discussion. This last part is given in Swedish.
