Special call for staff at SLU, working within plant or animal breeding at locations other than Alnarp

The SLU Breeding Network and SLU Global are launching a special call for staff at SLU at locations other than Alnarp, working within plant or animal breeding at SLU. The call aims to cover the costs associated with participating in the conference Plant Breeding – The key to food security and improved foods on 26 October.

The Department of Plant Breeding (VF) takes care of the registration for its staff and students (contact: VF Head Prof. Anders S. Carlsson). The conference is arranged by the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (KSLA) and the Bertebos Foundation in honour of the 2022 Bertebos Prize Laureate, Professor Rodomiro Ortiz. The SLU Breeding Network and SLU Global will give awards to a maximum of 30 applicants that are eligible on a first come first served basis, but not exceeding the limit of the SLU Breeding Network’s and SLU Global’s budgets for this call. Submitting an application for an award is not a guarantee of its acceptance.

Who can apply?

Staff at SLU at locations other than Alnarp, working within plant or animal breeding at SLU, who are employed, on a scholarship or admitted at SLU during the time of the conference. The supervisor or work leader of PhD students, postdocs and technicians must agree on the attendance of the conference.

What can be applied for?

The application can only be to cover the conference fee (300 kr) and the costs for travel by train from other SLU campuses to Alnarp as well as hotel accommodation in the vicinity of Alnarp for a maximum of two nights (booking through Egencia, following SLU:s travel rules). Instead of two nights in a hotel, it is also possible to book a night train. Other costs or allowances connected to traveling to this conference will not be covered. The SLU Breeding Network and SLU Global have a total amount of 100,000 SEK allocated to this call.

Application procedure

The applications are processed as they arrive. Last day to send in an application is the 15 October 2022. If the application is approved, the applicant will get a written approval stating that the SLU Breeding Network is paying the costs as stated above.

The application must contain:

  • The applicants name, position and workplace (department & faculty at SLU), as well as the supervisors/work leaders name and workplace if applicable
  • Very short description of the applicants work and why the conference is relevant to attend in a breeding work context (max. 1/2 A4-page Times New Roman 12 point, single line spacing, 2 cm margins)
  • Letter of approval from the supervisor (PhD students) or work leader (postdocs and technicians)
