Research at LTV-Faculty

Last changed: 04 December 2017

Campus Alnarp’s activities centre around landscape architecture, horticulture, crop production and agriculture.

The global challenge is to provide the world’s growing population with food, clean water, fibres, materials and energy using sustainable methods. The research done at Alnarp contributes in different ways to the development of a bio-based economy.

Landscape Architecture concerns among other things multi-functional landscapes and their importance to and use by humans. Research fields include the history of horticulture, administration of outdoor urban environments, design and landscape conservation and development of parks. One field unique to Alnarp is landscape-oriented environmental psychology, where people’s quality of life and their health are studied.

Horticultural science deals with the entire cultivation chain. This includes production of food, raw materials for industry, decorative plants and storage and marketing. Important fields of research include chemical ecology and food safety and the quality and nutritional content of fruit, berries and vegetables.

Crop production science includes crop improvement, farming systems and crop production and aims to find ways to increase production in horticultural cultivation, agriculture and the forest industry in sustainable ways.

Animal environment, animal welfare and building function focus on sustainable, environmentally sound animal husbandry for the production of milk, meat and eggs.
