Planning

By combining research within different study areas this theme is focused on creating holistic solutions for the sustainable use of natural resources. Focal study areas include forest planning, forest inventory and sampling, forest remote sensing and landscape studies.

In forest planning, we focuses on planning processes for different types of forest owners and aims to develop competence and methods that can be applied in practice to promote sustainable forest management. In forest inventory and sampling we work with field-based forest and landscape inventory, as well as development of cost-effective inventory systems that use several different data sources. In forest remote sensing we work with development and validation of remote sensing methods that can be used in forest management planning and environmental analysis. We work with all sensors and sensor platforms that are of relevance to forestry and assessment of vegetation. Finally in landscape studies, we include descriptions and analyses of the current state as well as change processes occurring at both the local and landscape level, within the ecosystem and communities where sustainability is of issue.
