About Spira Research School LTV

Last changed: 04 September 2023

Welcome to Spira the Research School for Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Sciences!

Spira is a research school within the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Scinece (LTV). The research school integrates all research topics at our faculty. We coordinate a number of PhD-courses within our field, and also arrange seminars and workshops.

The aim of Spira is to offer PhD courses and activities at the LTV faculty, meaning that the courses and activities are representative of the subject areas of all departments at the faculty. We hope that Spira will help you to get an overview of all available courses, making it easier to plan which courses to take and when to take them. Spira also aims to collaborate with other research schools within and outside of SLU regarding PhD courses.

FUN (the Board of Research education) at the LTV faculty decide about budget and strategy for the research school. The coordinator for Spira has a special responsibility for the PhD courses at the LTV faculty, including facilitating discussions regarding development of new PhD courses and activities. A student representative is also involved in coordination to ensure communication with PhD students.

When you start your PhD education at the LTV-faculty, you are automatically enrolled in Spira independent of how your PhD education is funded (employed by SLU, industrial PhD or stipend). If you like, you can be enrolled in several research schools at the same time.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the coordinator Åsa Lankinen for more information.

Facts:

Spira is a Swedish word with several meanings, including the onset of germination and growth, and a spire on a roof. This represents the breadth of the research areas in our research school, which also mirrors the broad range of research at the LTV-faculty. It also represents the PhD journey to become a researcher.
