Lunch Seminar "Biofilms facing co-occurrent stressors in river ecosystems: regularities and limitations"

by Sergi Sabater, Professor at the Institute of Aquatic Ecology, University of Girona

The variable character of Mediterranean climate provides episodic hydrology to rivers, highly altered because of regulation and overexploitation. Further, most Mediterranean rivers are affected by nutrient excess, and the occurrence of pollutants, that cause severe effects on the biota. Many of the resulting effects on ecosystem processes, such as metabolism, carbon flux, or biogeochemical processes,  are mediated by biofilms. This talk will show some of the patterns emerging from the biofilms responses in rivers submitted to  multiple stressors.
