Thesis title: Ticking off the ungulate box – The role of different ungulate species in the transmission of tick-borne pathogens
Nannet started her PhD project, studying the role of different ungulate species on the life-cycle of ticks and the transmission of tick-borne diseases in the MegaSus lab group. This PhD project was a collaboration between SLU and Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Most previous studies into the role of ungulates in the ecology of ticks did not divide the different ungulate species, but regarded it as one group. But one species can be very different from the other, for example a moose versus a roe deer. In this project Nannet explored if and how the different species differ in their role in the ecology of ticks and tick-borne pathogens, which can be used in ungulate management to mitigate the risk for public health.
