It may have taken a while but as of 1 July 2021 SLU’s units Data Management Guidance and Development (‘Miljödatastöd’; MDS) and Data Curation Unit (DCU) will become one, forming a new unit called “Data Management Support” (DMS).
SLU’s vice-chancellor has decided to establish a new, university-wide unit called Data Management Support (DMS), taking effect from 1 July 2021. This new unit will be the result of merging the two already existing units Data Management Guidance and Development (‘Miljödatastöd’; MDS) and Data Curation Unit (DCU).
The motive for this decision is that the two units, MDS and DCU, share to some degree the same task; that is to work in the long run towards ensuring that SLU’s research as well as environmental monitoring and assessment data is well described and openly available for future use. Merging these two units will allow coordinating important competencies, provide a greater critical mass of support staff, and facilitate a more uniform and stronger support advantageous for both SLU’s environmental monitoring and assessment as well as research.
