Update think/do tanks

Published: 13 November 2020

A think/do tank is an overarching concept for some of the activities in the Mistra programme which bring research and practice more closely together, enabling us to overcome barriers between thinking and doing. A think/do tank creates a space where issues of relevance for societal partners connected to the program are discussed and developed in a way that is useful for (societal partners and for) society in general.

What is happening in the think/do tanks right now?

We are going into detailed planning of the first think/do tank: On February 16 2021 there will be a symposium on the role of museums in the transformation towards a sustainable society. Moderna Museet has initiated this think/do tank, which was discussed already at the first programme meeing in January 2020. It has been postponed due to the pandemic, but now we are planning also for digital attendance. The programme looks exciting, and will be announced shortly, on the Mistra EC website and elsewhere.

What’s next?

We are currently investigating ideas from the programme meeting and follow up on that, which might lead to new ideas.

Do you see any challenges for the think/do tanks?

The pandemic seems to limit our possibilities to arrange activities, sometimes in practical terms, sometimes it is a matter of the creativity being restricted. It is challenging to realise the ambitions and the curiosity that we all have, and develop that into concrete action, also when physical meetings are limited. The upside of the situation is that there are still some resources unspent, which is of great value when we want to develop new think/do tanks to address new issues. Or pick up on ideas that have come up during our discussions…

What are your plan for the think/do tanks for 2021?

Apart from realizing the first think/do tank of Moderna Museet in February 2021, we will follow up on emerging ideas, as well as encourage new ones.
