Right now I am working with a project where the aim is develop a new advisory model for farmers with suckler-cow beef production, which are not commonly reached by traditional counselling and where the majority of farmers work with beef production part-time.
The goal is to create conditions for continuous work of improvement at farm level and to facilitate that a larger part of already existing knowledge about how to produce sustainable beef is turned into practice at farm level.
I am an agronomist with a PhD in animal science, where my focus of research was ruminant nutrition and, more specifically, how we can use winter feed resources to suckler cows more efficiently. After my dissertation in 2019 I started to focus more on farm business management and economy. My goal is to use my research to identify factors that strengthen the profitability of lamb- and beef producers and, hence, contribute to long-term sustainability of lamb- and beef production.
My hope is that my work in SustAinimal will contribute to the development of a competitive, sustainable and resilient beef- and lamb production in Sweden.
Swedish sheep and beef production are utterly important in the preservation of biodiversity and management of our semi-natural grasslands and in the process of converting grass into nutritious high quality food. Hence, sheep and beef producers contribute to the fulfilment of several environmental goals as well as to the Swedish aim of increasing our degree of food self-sufficiency. However, profitability is a prerequisite for long-term sustainable and successful sheep and beef production. Therefore, my intention is that my research within SustAinimal will provide new knowledge on how lamb- and beef producers may increase their economic resilience.
