Effects of salmonids on ecosystem processes: cycling and spatial translocation of nutrients

The main objective of this project is to investigate how Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) and sea trout (Salmo trutta) influence ecosystem nutrient dynamics. Using mesocosms experiments, I will study how salmonids affect ecological communities and ecosystem nutrient dynamics through nutrient production and spatial translocation of nutrients across ecosystem boundaries. Using Stable Isotope Analyses (SIA), I will then test how transported nitrogen (N) or carbon (C) incorporate into the tissues of aquatic organisms and riparian plant communities. This project will advance our knowledge on how fish affect ecosystem processes and how they play a pivotal role in natural systems.
