Course planning
The schedule of the course represents the moments that you will be able to expect during the running of the course. The theoretical (ecology) part of the course will be using a combination of classroom, excursions and project work. The plant knowledge part of the course will be taught on campus.

The course consists of two parts: Urban Ecology taught in Swedish or English, and Plant knowledge taught in Swedish.

Relate connections in natural site preferences of plants to their development in constructed plant beds and explain why this is important and how to implement this knowledge in a landscape design

Propose suitable measures against biotic and abiotic damage to plants, provide examples of urban pests and their control, argue the pros and cons of biological control versus classical control

Propose measures that promote biodiversity and ecosystem services in urban environments, explain what trade-offs might occur and how to mitigate these trade-offs

Combine plants for a smaller temporary planting, focusing on aesthetic aspects, take their ecological context into account and shows understanding of what the consequence could be if ecological context would be disgarded.

Reflect on how landscape engineers can work to strengthen the biodiversity in the city, explain specific challenges for the future and show understanding of potential trade-offs that might arise

Discuss how landscape engineers in different roles can handle issues related to ecosystem services, climate change, resource management, and people's need for outdoor environments, provide insight in potential ways of dealing with these challenges and provide examples of implementation
