Fjärranalys och skoglig inventering

The course includes the theories (via lectures and literature) and applications (including

computer exercises) that are used within remote sensing and forest inventory, how these data

sources are integrated and their use in different applications (from the forest companies’

inventories to global inventories of greenhouse gases). Common remote sensing data are air

photos, satellite images and laser scanning data. Furthermore, guest lectures by individuals

from forest companies, student-run seminars for advanced understanding of the course content

and knowledge of research are included in Sweden and internationally via use of scientific

writings and contact with researchers. The focus of the course is on the need of data and

information by forestry and society for different decision making purposes, mainly regarding

forestry measures. The course also includes processing of remote sensing data and data

collection for ecological and environmental applications, connected to Sweden’s environmental

monitoring program (e. g., the National Forest Inventory and National Inventory of Landscapes

in Sweden- NILS). The course is concluded with joint project work regarding remote sensing

and field inventory are combined to retrieve information which highlight special issues.

Compulsory components are exercises, seminars, group assignments, examinations and the

final examination.
