The course comprises lectures (one week) on and literature studies (one week) of the physiology and pathology of the locomotor apparatus (with comparative aspects from the human field), how to assess lameness, diagnose and treat common orthopaedic problems in our animals. By lectures, seminars and practical training the background and principles of objective tools for assessment of lameness in clinical practice and research will be presented. These tools will be demonstrated and taught practically. Welfare issues related to locomotor problems in animals will be covered in lectures and seminars.

Admitted to a postgraduate program in animal science, biology, veterinary medicine, food science, nutrition, nursing, or related subjects, or to a residency program in veterinary science.
Mål
After completing the course the student shall be able to:
- describe briefly the anatomy and physiology of the locomotor apparatus
- describe how to assess movement in sound and lame animals
- describe techniques for motion analysis in lame animals that can be used in clinical practice.
- describe a lameness workup in different companion and production animals
- describe a brief overview of the pathophysiology of common orthopaedic disorders in animals
- describe a brief overview of imaging techniques for common orthopaedic disorders in animals
- describe a brief overview of treatments/rehabilitation options for common orthopaedic disorders in animals
- describe welfare issues related to locomotor problems in production, companion and leisure animals in animals
