Nationell och internationell skogspolitik

Kursen har två primära mål: (1) att ge ett brett perspektiv bortom traditionella skogliga discipliner genom att undersöka samspelet mellan skog och samhälle, och (2) att granska globala skogsregimer och nationell skogspolitik med fokus på deras konsekvenser för skogshushållningen. Kursen ges av ett internationellt lärarlag, som involverar forskare från Sverige, Tyskland, Danmark och andra länder. Kursinnehåll och aktiviteter är speciellt utformade för internationella studentklasser bestående av många nationaliteter. Således ger kursen en unik möjlighet att undersöka samhälleliga förutsättningar och politiska effekter på skogsförvaltning ur ett jämförande internationellt perspektiv. Verksamheten i klassen omfattar debatter och många gruppövningar. Utanför klassrummet, besöker studenterna en privat skogsfastighet, läser vetenskaplig litteratur, utarbetar essäer, och skriver en reflekterande dagbok. I slutet av kursen har vi en 2-veckors studieresa till länder utanför Sverige, med fokus på att jämföra skogspolitik i utvalda länder eller regioner.

Welcome to the course "National and International Forest Policy" 2023!

Here on Canvass you will find all the necessary course information including the schedule, literature, assignments, etc. All course messages will be provided in the “Announcements”, and sometimes sent as messages using the Canvas email-function.

Course syllabus contains detailed overview of course topics, teaching forms, examination, etc. Syllabus and other main documents can be found under “Key documents”.

The Schedule gives an overview of the course day by day. The morning session begins at 9:00 sharp (if not specified otherwise) and normally lasts until 12. The afternoon sessions are normally between 13-15(16).

In the course, we plan to have a study trip to Latvia and Lithuania, between March 6-17. The participating students shall plan expenses amounting to SEK 2,500 for partially covering the costs for the study trip.

Betygskriterier

Grading will be based on student's attainment of the following learning outcomes:

- Recognise regional, European and global forestry structures, including resources, actors and processes
- Comprehend the complex linkages between forest-related policies and forest management practices
- Critically analyse national and international forest policy issues and processes
- Debate forest policy issues in an international context, advocate own viewpoints
- Write reflective and creative essays in English

- Deeply reflect on own learning

Final grade depends on how well a student can demonstrate that s/he has met all learning outcomes:

5: awarded if students clearly met all outcomes, displaying deep knowledge of the base contents (from lectures and readings), original and creative thinking, ability to generate own interpretations, being active participant in seminars and debates.

4: all outcomes achieved well and effectively

3: outcomes achieved satisfactorily, or where the evidence is strong for some outcomes, weaker but acceptable for others

U: (missed) failed all or some of the outcomes
