Ädellövskog - Dynamik, biologisk mångfald och skötsel för mångbruk

Kursen övergripande mål är att förmedla en god överblick över nordeuropeiska ädellövskogars historia, ekologi, biologiska mångfald, och hållbara förvaltning.

Vi studerar ädellövskogens flora och fauna, undersöker skogsbrukets effekter på biologisk mångfald och granskar aktuella naturvårdsstrategier. Här jämför vi särskilt olika skötselalternativ baserat på historiska referensmodeller. Vi studerar också aktuella hot mot ädellövskogens funktion och mångfald med fokus på invasiva trädsjukdomar och effekter av viltbete. Under vår studieresa till Bialowieza nationalpark i nordöstra Polen utforskar vi denna kronjuvel bland Europas låglandsskogar.

Vi ägnar oss åt olika aspekter av hållbar virkesproduktion i lövskog, inklusive skötsel av snabbväxande lövträd. Vi jämför också traditionella skötselsystem, såsom skärmskogsbruk i bokskog, med metoder för stam- eller gruppvis skötsel. Under olika fältexkursioner studerar vi reservatsskötsel och skoglig restaurering. Vi utvärderar aktuella restaureringskoncept, särskilt olika sätt att omföra granskog till lövskog.

Som en röd tråd genom kursen löper en kontinuerlig diskussion om de utmaningar som en hållbar förvaltning av lövskogarna möter idag med tanke på pågående klimat- och samhällsförändringar.
