We accumulate, analyse and disseminate information concerning the species and habitats occurring in Sweden. We are one of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences' formal collaborative centres.

The Swedish Taxonomy Initative

A unique project with the purpose to identify and describe all species of animals, plants and fungi in Sweden, prioritizing lesser known species and organism groups.

Species observations

We gather information from private persons as well as various authorities and institutions concerning the occurrence and distribution of Swedish species. The most important tool for this is Artportalen, a Swedish Species Observation System.

Our work with habitat types

The diversity of the Swedish landscape is truly stunning. It ranges from the snow-clad mountain tops, glaciers and deep valleys of the far north to the lush vegetation and warm climate of the southernmost counties. It is this wide variety in terms of topography, geology, temperature, precipitation and wind exposure that shaped the Swedish biodiversity.

Our work with Swedish species

Approximately 60,000 species are recorded from Sweden. Our knowledge of them varies widely, being very poor in the case of several organism groups. Filling these information gaps is essential to the assessment of the extinction risk of individual species, and to call attention to the need of conservation measures.
