Being a blood donor
With the help of the amazing work that our blood donors do, we can save more lives.
Our blood donor dogs donates blood about once every three months. When we are in need of cat blood, we call in our blood donor cats.
The appropriate age to become a dog blood donor with us is between 1 and 3 years of age. Our blood donors usually "retire" at the age of 8.
Once a year, we also conduct an examination for our blood donors. We perform blood test analyses that shows us, for example, how the dog's liver and kidney function is looking. At the annual visit, a clinical examination is also performed, which involves a thorough review of the dog's health. The veterinarian examines the dog, looks at the mucous membranes, listens to the heart, lungs and more. The dog's blood type is determined at the very first visit to the Blood Bank.
