All pet owners face the difficult decision of saying goodbye to their beloved pet. Sometimes it happens suddenly and sometimes you know about it ahead of time. Regardless, it can feel reassuring to know how the proess may look and what choices you have when the time comes.
When it is time to say goodbye
In most cases, we will schedule a vet visit for euthanasia, but sometimes a sudden accident or rapid progression of illness may mean that the most merciful option for the animal is euthanasia. We are here for you no matter what the situation is.
We care about ensuring that your pet's final moments are safe and peaceful. During the vet visit, you and your pet can say goodbye in peace and quiet. When you feel ready, the animal is given sedatives to make it tired and relax. Then, an overdose of anesthetic is given. The animal falls asleep peacefully, its breathing stops and after a while, its heart stops beating. The veterinarian concludes that the animal is no longer alive by listening to its heart with a stethoscope.
Afterwards
You choose whether you want to have your animal cremated or whether you want to take the body home and bury it.
After euthanasia, you can also choose to donate the animal's body for education and research. With the help of our donations, we can improve animal health care for our four-legged friends and also educate the veterinarians and animal nurses of the future. Your donation can help us increase our knowledge about our animals' diseases and how we can treat and hopefully prevent them.
Your animal will not be autopsied or used for education or research unless you, as the animal owner, have given your consent.
