Increasing Polarization Threatens Climate Transformations

A decreasing will to consensus stymies work on climate transformation, says an op-ed from programme researchers.

Work Package 1 of the Mistra Environmental Communication programme investigates cooperation and dialogue in governance for sustainability. In a new op-ed, authors Martin Westin and Robert Österbergh argues that a decreasing will to consensus makes work on climate transformations harder.

Dialogues are, according to the authors, crucially about a will to enlightened exchanges where perspectives and arguements are tested against each other with the goal of reaching consensus or clarifying differences. Due to the scale and broad impact of climate transformations, functioning dialogues are of particular importance.
