Our Laboratory

Welcome to our sampling unit (specialist laboratory for veterinary endocrinology, clinical chemistry, hematology and cytology). We have Sweden's highest veterinary expertise in sampling and analysis, i.e. clinical chemical diagnostics.

Cutting-edge expertise in sampling and analysis

At our Clinical Pathology Laboratory, we receive samples from veterinarians and researchers throughout the country, and analyze samples for the University Animal Hospital. We analyze samples from most animal species, such as dogs, cats, horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, mice, rats, guinea pigs, birds, exotic animals and zoo animals.

Quality work is a priority area in our operations. We participate in several external control programs, both Swedish and international. Samples from the departments of the SLU University Animal Hospital form the basis for validating new methods, developing our own reference intervals and producing our own control samples in cases where commercial controls are lacking.

At the Clinical Pathology Laboratory at SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), we work with the best interests of the animals in focus. We are a veterinary specialist laboratory that analyzes biochemical, endocrine, hematological, and cytological samples. We work with validated methods and have broad expertise and extensive experience in analyzing samples from animals.

We have a close collaboration with the Department of Clinical Sciences (SLU) and are the routine laboratory for UDS. This gives us a strong routine and broad experience in animal healthcare. The veterinarians who work here have specialist competence in clinical pathology (DipECVCP). We also have licensed veterinarians who are studying for their specialist competence in clinical pathology on site. Our biomedical analysts (BMA) and other competencies have broad knowledge and experience in veterinary medical analysis work.

We receive samples from veterinarians and researchers throughout the country, and analyze samples for UDS. We are involved in several external control programs, one of which is Swedish and four are veterinary medicine-specific. We carry out development work in veterinary medical analysis work by validating methods for different animal species before they are put into use, and create animal-specific controls for our analyses. With great commitment and a good sense of quality and accuracy, we perform work that we are proud of every day!

Adjacent to UDS's new, state-of-the-art premises is the Clinical Pathology Laboratory. We assist veterinarians and animal health workers on a daily basis with our expertise in everything from clinical chemistry to sampling and finding out test results. We have a flexible and changing work environment where we all collaborate to drive development forward.

At UDS, the next generation of animal nurses and veterinarians are trained. We are also a valued internship for BMA students. Our staff both teach and research alongside the daily routine work in the laboratory. This keeps us at the forefront of developments in veterinary medicine, and we at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory are proud to be part of the developments that are taking place in education, as well as science.

We are driven by our curiosity, the desire to change and to provide world-class animal healthcare!
