The Hernquist Collection is a special collection of about 4000 volumes of older literature named after Peter Hernquist (1726-1808) who founded Sweden's first veterinary school in Skara in 1775 and is considered the father of Swedish veterinary medicine.

The book collection

The core of the Hernquist collection dates from the latter part of the 18th century and comes partly from Peter Hernquist's own library and partly from various donations and gifts. The collection is divided into different subjects such as veterinary science, hippology, anatomy, economics and general natural science.

The Hernquist collection is located at the Veterinary Museum in Skara and can be studied on site by appointment.
