Publish data in the SND repository and Researchdata.se

Page reviewed:  16/05/2025

SLU staff can publish data from research and from environmental monitoring and assessment in the Swedish National Data Service repository. The data will be displayed in the national data portal Researchdata.se, as well as in other data catalogues.

How to describe and submit data

Data are described and submitted through a system called DORIS. Log in by using your regular SLU AD-account information.

SND’s instructions for how to submit data to the repository:

A persistent identifier (DOI – Digital Object Identifier) is provided for each dataset in SND’s repository. A DOI ensures that a dataset can be uniquely identified and cited. We can give you a reserved DOI if needed, e.g. for a data availability statement. Please note that the DOI will not be activated until the dataset is published.

For more information on data availability statements, see our FAQ:

It is important to state how data can be reused. SLU’s general recommendation is that SLU datasets should be released with a CC0 waiver.

For more information about CC0 and licencing regarding publishing data in SND’s repository, see our FAQ:

When describing and publishing data in SND's repository you need to add the "Principal's registration number" ("Diarienummer hos huvudman"). At SLU, this is an ID from Public 360, SLU's records management system, where the dataset should be registered (but not uploaded).

Do you need help?

SLU has a support service that assists staff with issues relating to the management of research and environmental assessment data. The support service includes data management specialists, IT experts, archivists, lawyers, research advisors, information security specialists and librarians

About Researchdata.se and SND

If you choose to publish in SND’s repository, the SLU data management support team (DMS) will help you in the process. To ensure that the data can be understood and used by others, DMS will review the submission prior to publication to help ensure that the form has been entered correctly, that files are readable and in suitable file formats and that sufficient data documentation is provided.

Publishing via SND’s repository has many advantages, such as:

  • It meets the requirements of journals, funders and SLU for data publishing and FAIR data
  • You will meet archival requirements since archiving data at SLU and registering them in Public 360 (SLU:s records management system) are included in the SND publishing process.
  • The data will be stored securely and in accordance with SLU requirements
  • The level of data access can be adapted to requirements due to e.g. sensitive and personal data.
  • The data will be searchable through Researchdata.se and dataportal.se (a national portal for Swedish public digital resources), and in international databases, including Web of Science Data Citation Index.

Researchdata.se is a national web portal through which you can share and reuse research data from all disciplines. The portal is operated by the Swedish National Data Service (SND).

On Researchdata.se, you can search and browse data publications from sources such as SND’s repository, SITES, ICOS, SciLifeLab, SBDI and GBIF.

If you want to share data through/via Researchdata.se, you can publish the data in one of several repositories that are displayed on Researchdata.se. This guide focuses on data published in SND’s repository. Should you want to make use of one of the other repositories or read about their features, Researchdata.se has information:

The Swedish National Data Service (SND) is a national infrastructure that supports the accessibility, preservation and reuse of research data. SLU is part of the consortium that runs SND and contributes to the infrastructure, e.g. with the development of the Researchdata.se portal and with domain expertise in climate and environmental data, through our two domain specialists Ida Taberman (ida.taberman@slu.se) and Ylva Toljander (ylva.toljander@slu.se).
