Publish your thesis

Theses are registered and uploaded to the SLU publication database (SLUpub) to be made openly available. Here you will find information about the publication process.

Your responsibility as an author

  • Design your thesis
  • Enter a licence
  • Arrange for printing
  • Register and upload your thesis in SLUpub at least three weeks before the defence

Design your thesis

  • Must be a part of the series Acta Universitatis Agriculturae Sueciae, ISSN 1652-6880.
  • Must have two ISBN numbers (for printed and electronic version), DOI and a part number in the Acta series.
    • DOI, ISBN and part number in the Acta series can be requested from the library. (LINK)
  • Should be designed using the SLU University Library template for theses containing:
    • Summarising chapter
    • Notice of dissertation
    • Back cover text
    • Errata
  • Graphic Services will design the front cover. If you want an illustration, send it to the Graphic Services and make sure you have the rights to use the image.
  • The published articles are sent to Graphic Services as the publisher's pdf. Check the publisher's contract if you have permission to print published articles in your thesis. Contact the library if you are unsure.
  • Not published in the Acta series. There is no SLU-wide series for licentiate theses, although some departments have them or publish them in their report series. Check with your department what applies.
  • Must have two ISBN numbers (for printed and electronic version) and DOI.

  • You can use SLU's document template for theses, but it is not mandatory as your department may have its own guidelines.
  • Must be a part of the series Acta Universitatis Agriculturae Sueciae, ISSN 1652-6880.
  • Must have two ISBN numbers (for printed and electronic version), DOI and a part number in the Acta series.
    • DOI, ISBN and part number in the Acta series can be requested from the library. (LINK)
  • Can be adapted to the partner university's template if necessary, but must include:
    • SLU logo (on the cover).
    • Name and part number of the Acta series (on the cover).
    • ISSN and double ISBN (on one of the opening pages).
    • That the theses are the result of a joint degree and involved universities (on the cover or any of the introductory pages).
    • Place of publication (on one of the introductory pages).

SLU recommends licensing the summarising chapter under a Creative Commons licence.

Print your thesis

Send the following separate files to Graphic Services:

  • Summarising chapter (pdf)
  • Papers/articles (pdf)
  • Notice of dissertation (pdf)
  • Back cover text (.doc - word)
  • Front cover image if applicable (.tif or .jpg)
  • Any errata (pdf)

The thesis must be printed no later than three weeks before the defence (on the day of nailing). Contact Graphic Services in good time.

Deliver printed copies to the library and registrar

You should deliver the correct number of printed copies (including notices of dissertation) to the SLU University Library and the Registrar three weeks before the dissertation at the latest. The number varies depending on the faculty.

  • 2 copies of your thesis at the library in Alnarp.
  • 1 copy at the Registrar. Adress: SLU Alnarp, Box 190, 234 22 Lomma.
  • 3 copies of your thesis at the library in Uppsala.
  • 1 copy at the Registrar. Address: SLU, Box 7070, 750 07 Uppsala
  • 4 copies of your thesis at the library at the campus where the dissertation takes place.
  • 1 copy at the Registrar. Address: SLU Umeå, 901 83 Umeå
  • 4 copies of your thesis at the library in Uppsala.
  • 1 copy at the Registrar. Address: SLU, Box 7070, 750 07 Uppsala

Register and upload in SLUpub

After the thesis have been approved and printed, you will receive a complete pdf from Graphic Services (including front and back cover and articles). This is the file you should upload to SLUpub when you register your thesis.

Register in the SLU publication database

The library reviews the copyright and removes articles that may not be published as follows.

  • Summarising chapter: Always published (you have full copyright).
  • Articles with CC licence: always published.
  • Other articles: the Library checks copyright and publishes when possible.
  • Unpublished or submitted articles: cut to avoid problems in future publication. Contact the library if you want to publish these anyway.
  • Monograph theses: Published in full. If published by a publisher, you must ensure that they also permit electronic publishing.
