Mistra Environmental Communication now offers an established environmental communication practitioner the opportunity to take time off their ordinary work and engage in their own professional development instead. During the time, the environmental communicator will have the opportunity to reflect on their professional career and insights, acquire new knowledge and deeper understanding in relation to latest research, and engage in knowledge exchange with researchers and practitioners in the broad field of environmental communication.

Among others, this opportunity might enable the selected communicator-in-residence to examine how they navigate the tensions inherent in the different views on environmental communication – as shared meaning-making or as instrument for change. It will also enable the communicator-in-residence to bring some of their insights back into their own professional practice and their workplace.

What we offer

The communicator-in-residence is offered, among other things, an employment with a salary covering significant parts of missed salary when on leave for the residence with us, contact with researchers and possibilities to contribute to ongoing discussions and research, regular on-site supervision and reflection for individual projects, organisational support, and a very rewarding and stimulating working environment.

What we expect from you

The applicant needs to consider themselves an environmental communication practitioner and have at least three years of work experience. Besides spending time on their professional development project, we expect the communicator-in-residence to (among other things) actively seek out conversations with researchers to exchange perspectives on environmental communication practice, participate in shared activities, share their knowledge and insights with students and researchers, and write about their experiences and insights during their residency in a blog post.

We welcome applications of environmental communication practitioners of any field or academic background.

The communicator-in-residence is expected to be present at SLU Ultuna most days during five to eight weeks in autumn 2023, most ideally in October and November 2023.
