Days with no scheduled teaching

There is normally no classes on Wednesday afternoons. Exceptions may be granted by the programme board in question.

No classes must be scheduled on the following days:

  • Roll-call day (Applies to year 1 on all programmes. For all other years, no compulsory components should be scheduled.)
  • Day before All Saints' Day
  • 23–31 December
  • Campus-specific days

Guidance sessions

The guidance sessions offered by SLU's study and career counsellors should, as far as possible, be included in the course schedules. For the current and coming academic year, the date(s) is/are:

  • Wednesday 25 March 2026, 13.00-14.00

Campus-specific information

Academic year 2025/2026

Teaching should not be scheduled on the following dates/times:

  • 1 September 2025, 8–12 (for first-year students on all programmes and for courses taught in English)
  • 19 January 2026, 8–12 (for courses taught in English)
  • 31 October 2025, 13–17 (day before All Saints' Day)
  • 23–31 December 2025 (Christmas holidays and the days between Christmas and New Year)
  • 2 April 2026, 13–17 (Maundy Thursday)
  • 30 April 2026, 13–17 (Walpurgis Night)

Resit days:

  • 15 October 2025
  • 10 December 2025
  • 25 February 2026
  • 29 April 2026
  • 19 August 2026

Teaching should not be scheduled on Wednesday afternoons to allow for, among other things, board meetings, student information sessions, teachers' meetings and student union work. Exceptions can be granted by the relevant programme board.

You can find the form to apply for exemption on the Swedish website, För lärare i Alnarp. A general exemption applies to evening courses, summer courses and commissioned training.

On 5–6 February 2026, student union representatives will attend training days in Ultuna. There will be no restriction on scheduling, but if possible, compulsory components should not be scheduled. The training days count as student union duties, which is a valid reason for being allowed to make up for missed compulsory activities.

Professorial inaugurations, doctoral award ceremonies, docent lectures, career fairs, study and career guidance sessions and Thesis Day should, as far as possible, be included in the course schedules. Thesis Day on Campus Alnarp takes place on 4 June 2026.

For programmes offered by the LTV Faculty on Campus Ultuna, campus-specific instructions issued by the NJ and VH faculties must be followed.

As a rule, no classes should be scheduled for Wednesday afternoons in order to facilitate the planning of joint activities. A special permission from the programme director of studies is required. 

In principle, no classes should be scheduled on Wednesday afternoons, 13:00–17:00, to allow for e.g. board meetings, student information, teachers’ meetings and student union work. Exceptions may be granted by the programme board in question. See also the Education Planning and Administration handbook, Section 2.4. No classes during bank holidays.

Special activities

In addition to the Forest Student Summit, which means no scheduled classes from Thursday afternoon, 16 October to Friday, 17 October 2025, the following activities will also take place and may be useful to keep in mind when scheduling.

Gymnasiedag (high school visit day)

In Umeå, a high school visit day will be held on 25 September for invited students who will visit the Skogis building to learn more about SLU and the faculty’s degree programmes. The event will require the use of certain facilities, as well as staff and students.
