Departments
-
Department of Animal Biosciences
Welcome to the department where we teach and research in areas ranging from molecular mechanisms and microbiology to whole animal structure and function! Our main subjects are anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, genetics, breeding, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epizootology, comparative medicine, food safety, bioinformatics and One Health. Our research covers production animals, companion animals, laboratory animals and wildlife. -
Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare
Our aim is to advance responsible animal management, welfare, and sustainable food production while ensuring high product quality. Through research and education, we focus on feed and nutrition, management and environment, ethology and animal ethics, as well as animal welfare and protection. -
Department of Aquatic Resources
At the Department of Aquatic Resources (SLU Aqua) we conduct research on fish and shellfish in seas, lakes, and watercourses. We monitor the aquatic environment and develop methods and expertise for the sustainable use of aquatic resources. -
Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment
We develop knowledge about environmental changes and their causes through research, education, and environmental analysis. The department takes a broad and interdisciplinary approach to water issues, focusing on monitoring, understanding, and contributing to improved quality in Sweden’s aquatic environments. -
Department of Biosystems and Technology
At the Department of Biosystems and Technology, we explore interactions between soil, plants, animals, the environment, climate, and humans in systems for sustainable food production and renewable raw materials. Our teaching and research focus on the sustainable and efficient use of limited resources for production in greenhouses, on agricultural land, and in farm buildings. -
Department of Clinical Sciences
We provide education and conduct research in clinical and comparative veterinary medicine and animal care. We also provide animal health care at SLU University Animal Hospital. -
Department of Crop Production Ecology
How can we ensure that food, animal feed, bioenergy, and fiber from cultivated plants are sufficient for a growing global population, while at the same time reducing the environmental impact of agriculture? The Department of Crop Production Ecology (VPE) contributes to solutions through research, collaboration, and education in sustainable crop production. -
Department of Ecology
Climate change, biodiversity loss and competition for land are putting growing pressure on ecosystems – and on us, who depend on them. Ecological knowledge has never been more vital than it is today. We develop solutions for sustainable agriculture and forestry, plant protection with fewer toxins and effective conservation and wildlife management. -
Department of Economics
At the Department of Economics, we conduct research and teaching in business administration and economics with applications to sustainability, food, agriculture, and natural resources. -
Department of Energy and Technology
The Department of Energy and Technology conducts research and education on agriculture’s role in a sustainable society. Our expertise includes technologies and systems for sustainable food and bioenergy production, optimal nutrient cycles, and logistics systems. -
Department of Forest Bioeconomy and Technology
We focus on a green future, a bioeconomy where the forest is the foundation for sustainable production of food, material, energy, chemicals and services. -
Department of Forest Ecology and Management
Our mission is to advance scientific understanding of forest ecosystems and the underlying ecological processes, while refining evidence-based principles for their sustainable and effective management. -
Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology
We are part of Umeå Plant Science Centre, a centre of excellence for experimental plant research and forest biotechnology. Our mission is to: -
Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology
We answer questions about how agriculture and forestry can be conducted in a world with changing climate. Key themes include forest and plant pathology as well as nutrient and carbon cycling in agricultural and forest ecosystems. -
Department of Forest Resource Management
The department prioritises multilateral cooperation, bringing together expertise from diverse research groups. This creates unique opportunities to develop holistic solutions for the sustainable use of natural resources. -
Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management
LAPF is Sweden’s leading academic institution for education and research in the field of landscape architecture and a part of SLU Landscape. -
Department of Molecular Sciences
Revealing the molecular mechanisms of biologically relevant processes. -
Department of People and Society
We work on solving societal challenges. At the intersection of research, teaching and practice, we bring together environmental psychology, business management and advisory services. Our purpose is to create the conditions for sustainable living and working environments in rural and urban areas. -
Department of Plant Biology
We conduct research to deepen our understanding of plants and their interactions with the environment, including other organisms and abiotic factors. Our aim is to translate this fundamental knowledge into practical solutions that promote sustainable practices in agriculture and forestry. -
Department of Plant Breeding
