Applying for a degree

Page reviewed:  25/02/2026

Once you have completed your studies, you need to apply for your degree. You do this in Ladok for students.

Check that you meet the degree requirements

  • Before applying, please have a look at the requently asked questions about degrees.

  • Find out the requirements for the degree you want to apply for (e.g. number of credits, compulsory courses, possible independent project).

  • Make sure all your courses are registered, approved and completed in Ladok for students.

  • If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements for a degree, contact your programme director of studies if you are studying on a programme. If you are taking independent courses, please contact a study counsellor or a degree officer.

  • If you want to apply for more than one degree, you need to apply separately for each degree. Read up on the degree requirements before making multiple applications.

What does a degree certificate contain?

The degree certificate consists of a front page stating the degree you have obtained and when it was awarded. If the degree has a main field of study, this is also stated on the front page. The following pages contain a list of the courses included in your degree. The degree certificate is bilingual, with all information provided in both Swedish and English.

The degree certificate is accompanied by a Diploma Supplement. This is an appendix to the degree certificate that describes the programme and the Swedish education system in English. The purpose of the appendix is to facilitate the recognition and crediting of a Swedish degree if you want to apply for a job or continue your studies abroad.

Digital degree certificate

As of 2020, SLU only issues digital degree certificates. Your degree certificate will be sent to the email address registered in Ladok for students.

You can email your degree certificate to employers and other higher education institutions. Should you lose the PDF file, you can download it again from Ladok, or contact examen@slu.se and we will resend it.

Certificates issued after 24 April 2024

The certificate is e-stamped. This means that the person who has received the certificate can check that it has not changed since it was downloaded from Ladok. This is done by uploading the certificate to the Ladok verification page: https://student.ladok.se/student/kontrollera/en

Certificates issued between 28 February 2020 and 23 April 2024

Your degree certificate is issued as a PDF/A file and contains a digital signature. You will need to download your degree certificate and view it in a PDF reader. As editing is not allowed, it may not be possible to open the document in a PDF editor.

Certificates issued before March 2020 are only available as hardcopy. It is not possible to have such a certificate issued digitally.

Information for employers/recruiters

All digital degree certificates from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences have two digital signatures to ensure that our degree certificates are signed in a secure and legally binding manner. You can check that the e-signatures are valid by clicking on them. If an e-signature is valid, a green banner will appear on the verification page. Our e-signature provider is Adobe Sign.
