General information about the accommodation

Most accommodation consists of shared student housing, where students have a private room and share a kitchen and bathrooms with other residents. Room sizes, standards, and prices vary.

Rent and housing options

Rent varies considerably depending on the type of accommodation, ranging from large shared houses and smaller house shares to large and small flats.

Notice period and termination of contract

SLU student housing has a two-month notice period, which is shorter than many other housing providers. Please respect this when terminating your accommodation contract. All contract terminations must be made in writing.

  • Two-month notice period for both tenants and SLU student housing. You must submit your notice to SLU Student Housing two calendar months before your intended move-out date.

  • You must also arrange an inspection at least two weeks in advance by emailing housing@slu.se. The inspection will take place on the day you move out and will be conducted by your rental company. Please note that inspections are only offered on weekdays between 08:00 and 15:00. If you are moving out on a weekend or at a time that prevents the inspection from taking place, you will need to arrange alternative accommodation. You must be present during the inspection.

  • A fee of SEK 2,000 will be charged if your room is not thoroughly cleaned.

Rental period and summer months

Most of our accommodation is rented for nine months, meaning tenants only pay rent for nine months of the year. June, July, and August are excluded, provided you continue to live in our accommodation and study at SLU for the following autumn semester.

Eligibility and occupancy rules

All accommodation is intended only for people with a connection to SLU Alnarp. Please note that staying more than one person in a single room is strictly prohibited and may result in eviction.

Short-term accommodation and rent calculation

Sometimes, students require accommodation for a shorter period, which can often be arranged. We charge full or partial rent per calendar month, with adjustments if needed. For example, if you move in on 1 February and move out on 13 February, you will pay half of the month’s rent.

What is included in the accommodation

Rent usually includes:

  • Heating, water, electricity, and waste collection
  • Furniture in the room: bed (90×200 cm), duvet (150×200 cm), pillow (50×60 cm), desk, chair, wardrobe, bookcase, and fire alarm
  • Access to laundry facilities

You are welcome to bring smaller items of furniture, such as bedside tables. However, the existing furniture in the room cannot be removed, as the room is rented with all existing furniture.

As a resident, you are responsible for keeping your room, its furniture, and the common areas clean and tidy.

What is not included in the accommodation

The following are usually not provided:

  • Internet
  • TV, telephone line, and insurance
  • Bed sheets, washing powder, detergents, dishcloths, and other personal items
