Sarthak Shukla

A doctoral student at the Department of Rural and Urban Development, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, I have been working in the domain of just energy transitions since 2019. Having worked in multiple think-tanks in India, I have been a part of multiple research-cum-advocacy projects around electricity sector, energy, labour welfare, just transitions, responsible renewable energy and oil exploration sector. For reasons of interest and getting rid of tactically imposed limitations on freedom of think-tanks to 'speak truth to power', I vouched to shift to academics to give it a try!

Samverkan

The doctoral research is a work of collaboration and cooperation with project partners including the University of East Anglia, UK; & Indian Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad, India.

Apart from project-based collaborations, the research is based in one of Asia's largest coal mining districts of Korba, in Central India. Cooperation is indispensable for the doctoral research between various bureaucratic departments, labor unions, environmental activities, and most importantly, community representatives and households residing in that locality.

Apart from that, the research also aims to link the grassroot-level research with national (India-based) and global programs on Just Energy Transition with a focus on G7 nations' role, South African JET-P, Indonesian JET-P & Vietnam's JET-P, along with the World Bank, GIZ and other global organizations working in this domain.
