Knowledge equivalent to general entry requirements and specific entry requirements that includes Biology 2 and Chemistry 2.
Objectives
The aim of the course is to give an introduction to the education and insights in the possible future profession. This will be done by giving an orientation in issues that concern the use of natural resources and to introduce the students to higher education. The course will bring up how production and consumption of e.g. food, products and energy, effects the environment on a local and global scale. Furthermore, the course should give training in scientific written and oral presentation.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- Discuss the use of natural resources to generate products and services, and the consequences of this usage in an environmental and sustainability perspective
- Describe, at a general level, how the environmental work in Sweden is organized e.g. by the Swedish environmental quality objectives
¬- Describe how the natural values in an environment could be evaluated by field observations
- Discuss the use of natural resources from an ethical perspective
- Search and use literature critically and communicate information in speech and writing
Content
The course consists of lectures, exercises, seminars and excursions that deal with:
- The use of natural resources to produce e.g. food, products and energy, and the consequences of this use in an environmental and sustainability perspective
- Field visits to increase the knowledge about the use and the administration of natural resources in Sweden
- How national environment management and nature conservation is structured, e.g. through the Swedish environmental quality objectives
- Introduction to ethical argumentation about sustainable natural resources exploitation
- General library science and study technique
- Scientific writing and presentation techniques
- Oral and written presentation of a project
- Study visit to a workplace to give insight in possible future professions

- Passed exam and seminars in the field of natural resources and consequences of the use of these
- Thesis: Passed written and oral presentation
- Approved participation in field trips, exercises and other compulsory components
