Objectives
In this basic distance course in agrarian history you learn about land use, cultivation, farm animals, technologies, and people and society in Swedish agrarian history.
Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:
- Account for fundamental features as regards the organization of the agrarian landscape and land use over time
- Account for and analyse fundamental features in arable farming in Sweden over time
- Account for and analyse fundamental features in animal husbandry in Sweden over time
- Outline main features in Swedish Agrarian History from medieval times to the present
- Account for and discuss how social and economic conditions in farming and the countryside have changed over time
- Discuss how societal changes have influenced agriculture and the countryside.
Content
This is a broad basic course in Swedish agrarian history, which is given on distance, with 1-2 meetings.
The course includes a wide time span, from the mideavals to the present, with most attention to later centuries. You will learn about land use, settlements, work, crop cultivation and animal husbandry, and on how technical and societal changes have influenced food production and use of natural resources in food production. Moreover you vill study social and economic conditions in agriculture and the countryside, and how and why this has changed over time.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
Continuous examination during the course, through different kind of assignments and tests.
To pass the course it is compulsory to:
- Hand in an approved minor project
- Participate in different parts of the course, meetings, and in web based communication
For higher grade than three (3) various assignments has to be delivered on time.
