Internship in environmental communication
Course description
This course offers the opportunity to do an internship as a part of your environmental communication education during a minimum of 5 weeks. As part of the course, the student reflects on and writes about the experiences of environmental communication relevant situations, and about the social norms and processes appearing in the organization. The student writes a report and holds a presentation at the end of the course.

Objectives
The aim of the course is to give students opportunities to make and reflect on practical experiences related to environmental communication through an internship.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to
- describe the understanding and role of environmental communication within an organization;
- describe how environmental communication activities within an organization are practiced by its members;
- discuss their experiences of practicing environmental communication in an organization using relevant theories.
Content
Subject-related content
The main activity in this course is an internship relevant to environmental communication lasting at least 5 weeks. The student identifies the internship independently and agrees on the scope with a host organization including the allocation of a suitable supervisor. The internship needs to be approved by the course coordinator. During the internship the student takes notes on their experiences of situations relevant to environmental communication, including how environmental communication is understood and practiced in the organization, and the role that they played in this as an intern. The student summarizes these observations in an analytical reflection paper drawing upon course literature plus independent readings, which is presented and discussed with the examiner and other course participants.
Teaching formats
To further student learning and promote discussion, a variety of methods are used: internship, literature studies, (written) assignments, presentations and workshops.

Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
- Completing an internship (minimum 5 weeks) relevant to environmental communication. - Active participation in mandatory activities. - Passed written or oral exam(s). For further information, please refer to the course schedule.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
