Courses corresponding to 45 credits in the Landscape Engineer Programme.
Objectives
Course aim to develop student’s knowledge and skills as regards maintenance of green areas and natural lands with special emphasis on tactical and maintenance-related aspects.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- describe, analyse and evaluate outdoor environment in urban area and give proposal to maintenance and development of the same
- describe and analyse maintenance process and propose methods for this, and assess the maintenance from an environmental perspective
- explain manual maintenance tasks linked to vegetation
- within groups, plan, implement, analyse and report in writing a reality-based maintenance task.
- at a general level describe Landscape Engineer’s professional context.
Content
This course deals with maintenance of outdoor environments. In the course, theoretical knowledge is tied together with practical experiences.
At lectures, exercises and literature studies, a basis for more applied assignments is placed. Through theories, field studies and field trips a reference picture of maintenance problem around outdoor environments and solutions on this are built. Some vegetation-related practical exercises are carried out under supervision. Also knowledge development in use of GIS in administration and maintenance is included, to build this reference picture. Plant protection is included in the course to give a knowledge development in plant use for a sustainable maintenance and administration. All experiences underlie the project work that constitutes an important framework in the course and that have aim to give student a holistic approach on maintenance of public environments.
Compulsory excercises, excursions and seminars may occur.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
Pass in written exam. Approved project work and approved oral presentations. Participation in compulsory components.
