Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to

• Explain the different forestry production systems and overlapping interests in the use of forest land
• Describe different tree species and management methods on forest land and explain how they affect how yield and quality are formed during a rotation
• Briefly describe methods, tools and infrastructure used in forestry, and how these have developed historically
• Use basic methodology for calculating production and forest planning
• Discuss the sustainability challenges of forestry, for example climate and environmental impact, rights issues and working conditions
• Discuss sustainable consumption and production of forest products from a life cycle perspective, both in a local and global context, as well as ethical approaches to various production and consumption issues
