Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to
- Explain the different forestry production systems and overlapping interests in the use of forest land
- Describe different tree species and management methods on forest land and explain how they affect how yield and quality are formed during a rotation
- Briefly describe methods, tools and infrastructure used in forestry, and how these have developed historically
- Use basic methodology for calculating production and forest planning
- Discuss the sustainability challenges of forestry, for example climate and environmental impact, rights issues and working conditions
- Discuss sustainable consumption and production of forest products from a life cycle perspective, both in a local and global context, as well as ethical approaches to various production and consumption issues
