Objectives
The course aims to provide the student with basic knowledge and skills to interpret the landscape characteristics and to provide basic knowledge and skills in graphic arts and design relevant to the landscape architect’s work.
Knowledge and understanding After completing the course the student will be able to:
- register and interpret a landscape´s different character as seen from different aspects and formulate the observations in words and pictures
Competence and skills After completing the course the student will be able to:
- show a certain familiarity with the sketch as a tool to explore and test spatial characteristics and problems
- interpret, analyze and report on a landscape in words and pictures
- interpret maps and apply the knowledge by visualizing a landscape in a three-dimensional model
- use Adobe software for simple image processing
- depict real motives in black and white, and color techniques
- give shape to ideas
- make a 3D-perspective drawing
Content
The course consists of two parts, landscape architecture and graphic arts and design.
Landscape architecture The student practices the ability to perceive, understand and present spatial and three-dimensionality in the landscape and in connection with that applies previously acquired knowledge in geology and hydrology. In a series of compulsory exercises, the student makes analysis of different landscapes, partly methodical based on scientific theory and partly from personal experience of landscape character. Among other things, the students builds a model of a familiar landscape and makes a general geological and hydrological description of it.
Graphic arts and design In practical exercises the student train in free hand drawing, painting and spatial design. In lectures and seminars, imaging and artistic investigation is discussed as well as drawing and painting materials. By applied exercises, the student train the ability to observe, to make an image of the observed and to reflect on the depicted. In lessons and exercises the basics of perspective drawing and three-dimensional illustrations is trained. Exercises and seminars are compulsory.
The course gives 15 credits of skill training.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
