Objectives
Content
In the first assignment, a group of students work together in choosing and carrying out appropriate analysing methods for a city district considering spatial, ecological and historical aspects as well as social and traffic functions and the perception of the area. The analysis results in recommendations/guidelines for the future development of the area. The student formulates then individually a program as basis for how a public location (square, street, park) should be organised and designed. Then the actual design work starts The design should also answer to given demands (client claim) regarding social, ecological and aesthetic aspects as well as management and maintenance. Through short sketches and inspiration lectures, the students’ work with the design proposal is stimulated Supervision in the studio is an important support in the individual’s own development. Strong emphasis is placed at to train the student’s ability to merge many different interests and aspects to a design-related whole. The costs for maintenance and operation regarding the site and its plant material is discussed. The development of the site over time is part of the course. The development of the site due to influence of managers and users are discussed
The student should account for the development of the design process orally and thereby for the relationship between the site analysis and the design proposal. Attention is also devoted to the sketch as a way to communicate.
The design proposal should be presented in a way that makes the students basic ideas evident Teaching and training in using digital presentation techniques is included in the course.
