Objectives
The aim of the course is to give the student basic knowledge about hard materials of the garden and how they are used, different aspects on elevation and landscape construction and projecting of the garden based on a authentic work process. The course also intends to give the student basic knowledge in soil science. On completing the course, the student should be able to:
- make aware choices of included material and parts, and be able to argue and motivate these choices
- with digital tools process a design to technically viable documents
- account for basic soil physical processes and concept at a general level.
Content
Through literature studies, lectures and exercises, knowledge and skills about important parts in the projecting are acquired such as elevating, dimensioning and material knowledge with a focus on soil material and constructions. Design of superstructures of paved surfaces and plant beds are central parts of the course. The soil science intends to give the student basic knowledge about soil such as the physical and chemical properties of natural soil, the formation and distribution om different soil types in Sweden and human possibilities to affect the properties of soil. Scheduled exercises, seminars and study visit are compulsory.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
Passed project. Passed exercises and written assignments. Active participation in compulsory parts.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
