Knowledge equivalent to 60 credits in biology or horticultural science.
Objectives
The course aims at providing knowledge about plant breeding including genetics and important physiological processes along with environmental factors involved.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- explain briefly basic plant genetics
- describe briefly important traditional and modern breeding methods and their potential applications
- describe briefly important plant physiological processes at the molecular level
- explain effects of environmental factors on growth and development and plant responses to stress
- explain the principle of micropropagation and apply micropropagation in plant production.
- discuss ethical issues related to plant breeding
