Inspera (digital examination)
Inspera is SLU’s system for digital on-campus examinations. This means that you complete your exam on a computer instead of on paper. You will use a university computer and your SLU student account to log in to both the computer and your exam in Inspera.
Your first time? Try a demo exam!
Before taking your first digital on-campus examination, we recommend familiarising yourself with the system. You can take the demo exam as many times as you like.
To access a demo test, log in to Inspera and select the Demo tests tab.
Before your digital on-campus examination
Make sure you have registered for the exam. Check well in advance that you can log in to Inspera. Select Log in with SLU account.
Once you have logged in to Inspera, you will see the following tabs:
- Upcoming tests – contains the tests you have registered for that are available in Inspera. Your test should normally appear here by the afternoon of the day before the test.
- Previous test – contains tests you have previously taken in Inspera.
- Demo tests – takes you to practice tests where you can try out different question types.
To access a demo test, log in to Inspera and select the Demo tests tab.
When you take an exam in Inspera, you will use a secure browser called Safe Exam Browser (SEB). This locks down your computer so that you can only access the resources your teacher has permitted as aids during the exam.
When you arrive at the examination room, you will need to enter a password to start the secure browser. The password will be displayed in the examination room. When the exam is about to begin, the invigilators will give you a separate code to access the exam itself.
Starting your test
- First, select Upcoming tests.
- Find the exam you are going to take and select Click here to get ready.
- Read the information about the exam carefully.
- Select Start test in Safe Exam Browser to start the secure browser.
- If the Start test button is greyed out, the exam is not yet available. The time remaining until the exam starts is displayed in the top-right corner of the page.
- When the exam starts, the Start test button turns blue. Select it to open the exam. You will be taken to the first page and can begin writing.
Reviewing and submitting your answers
The summary page, which is the final page of the exam, shows which questions you have answered, and which remain unanswered. You can still go back and change your answers, except in exams where you are required to move through the questions in order without returning to previous questions.
When you have finished, select the blue Submit now button. Once you have submitted your exam, you cannot reopen it.
If you want to submit a blank exam
Submitting a blank exam in Inspera means deleting all your answers. Please note that this action cannot be undone. You must submit a blank exam before the exam time ends.
If you wish to submit a blank exam, contact an invigilator, who will help you.
After the exam
Once your exam has been marked and graded, you can view your answers and any comments from your examiner. To do this, log in to Inspera, go to the Previous tests tab, find the exam you want to review and select View more details to open it.
Please note that your examiner may choose not to make the exam content available or to publish the grade in Inspera. For example, the exam may be one component of a course, with the final grade based on several different components.
Your completed exam is stored in Inspera for two years. If you want to keep a copy for longer, you must download it before the two-year retention period expires.
