Part-Time Job as a Student Auditor!

Page reviewed:  02/03/2026

Do you want to use your knowledge of environmental management systems in real life?

Every year, the Environmental Unit at SLU employs a student on a part-time basis to work as an auditor in our internal environmental management system audits.
The assignment is ideal for students who have completed a course in environmental management systems and want to take the step from theory to practice—while contributing to meaningful and impactful environmental work.

As a student auditor, you will take part in planning and carrying out internal audits across the organisation. You will visit many different parts of SLU, ask questions, analyse working methods and contribute improvement suggestions. Your perspective as a student is a real asset and helps us view our environmental work through fresh eyes.

The role provides valuable work experience alongside your studies and strengthens your CV—but perhaps most importantly, it offers a deeper understanding of how an environmental management system actually works in everyday practice, beyond policies and theory.

In the role of auditor, you will develop your ability to see the bigger picture, identify risks and ask curious, relevant questions that contribute to real improvement. You will practise listening, analysing and engaging in professional dialogue with staff across the organisation, with a clear focus on improvement rather than finding faults.

Working as a student auditor strengthens your analytical and communication skills, as well as your confidence in taking on a professional role—being clear, respectful and solution-oriented. These are competencies that are just as valuable as subject knowledge and will stay with you long after your studies.

Including students in our internal environmental audits is one way of developing our environmental management system while making use of students’ engagement, curiosity and knowledge. For you, it is an opportunity to make a difference already during your studies—and to gain experience that is directly applicable in your future working life.
