Support and adaptations during studies abroad

Page reviewed:  02/12/2025

There are many different opportunities to study abroad during your degree. If you currently receive study support for a disability, you will most likely be able to receive support while studying in another country as well.

The type of study support may depend on what the university you will be studying at can offer. Contact them well in advance to find out how their support works.

  • Contact your coordinator at SLU if you need a certificate in English listing the recommended support for when you contact the university abroad.

  • Students with disabilities who go abroad and study as part of an Erasmus agreement can apply for additional grants to cover the costs of specific needs. This may apply to specialist transport, adapted accommodation, assistance, medical monitoring or adapted teaching materials. Contact mobility@slu.se for information.

  • Applying to study abroad requires significant preparation. You will need to manage application documents, track deadlines, find accommodation, and apply for visas. Because these tasks take time, it is important to start your planning well in advance. Read more about studying abroad.

  • An international guide and searchable database with information about study and placement opportunities around the world can be found at the Independent Living Institute.
