Patricia Hedenqvist, professor of laboratory animal medicine

Page reviewed:  10/06/2025

Patricia Hedenqvist is a professor of laboratory animal medicine since 1 December 2023. Her inauguration lecture has the title: "Stora insatser för små djur genom bättre narkos och smärtbehandling".

Patricia Hedenqvist's research aims to improve methods for anesthesia and pain management of rodents and rabbits, for the animals' own sake and to improve the quality of data from biomedical research. The studies can lead to increased animal welfare in both animal healthcare and research, and to better human healthcare. One example is a new anesthetic method for rabbits that was successfully used to test a new drug with the aim to prevent fatal bleeding in people who need to be connected long-term to a heart-lung machine.
