MACRO in FOCUS is a modelling tool based on the MACRO model that is used in risk assessments for new substances in the EU pesticide registration process.

MACRO in FOCUS is a shell program that links the model to Microsoft Access databases containing the required parameter inputs was written specially for the FOCUS applications.

MACROinFOCUS 5.5.4 is a new version of the tool and is based on MACRO 5.2. The new version is now available on FOCUS webbpage where you also can find more information about the tool.

In 2017, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) launched a comprehensive project to update and improve the models and scenarios used for risk assessment of pesticide losses to surface water within the EU, including the MACRO-in-FOCUS tool. The new tools have been delivered, and the “Version Control” process within FOCUS is now underway.

There are also requests from the Swedish Chemicals Agency for updates to the Swedish groundwater scenarios included in MACRO in FOCUS, incorporating more recent climate data as well as additional crops. This work is currently ongoing.
