About the job

You will primarily work at the hospital’s orthopaedic department. As a veterinarian at UDS, you will also supervise veterinary and animal nursing students. There are opportunities for collaboration with researchers in our orthopaedic team at the university, as part of clinical research, as well as the opportunity to gain a specialist qualification. The clinic is equipped with a QHorse, a Qualisys system for objective lameness assessment.  At the University hospital we have a diagnostic imaging clinic, equipped with large animal radiography, ultrasound, a 64-slice CT, 0.27 T equine standing MRI, large animal nuclear medicine including a hotlab.

Qualifications 

You are a licensed veterinarian with the right to work in Sweden, and have solid experience in equine orthopaedics. It is desirable to have an ISELP certification, formal training in orthopaedics and rehabilitation such as a completed residency program within ECVSMR or obtained the diploma.

You are used to meeting animal owners in different situations. You have good communication and social skills, realize the importance of maintaining good customer contacts and treating animal owners in a professional manner. As a person, you are structured, can withstand periodic high workloads and enjoy working in a dynamic environment. You value good cooperation with colleagues, are a good team player and actively contribute to good relations within the entire faculty. You are interested in working in an environment where clinical activities meet teaching and research, as well as in creating a good learning environment for students. At the same time, you can look at the business from a commercial perspective and are results-focused. We will place great importance on your personal abilities.

About us

At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research and advanced animal care go hand in hand. We educate tomorrow's veterinarians and animal nurses and provide first-class care for companion animals, competition animals and production animals. We also disseminate knowledge to the general public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we develop the animal care of the future.

Under one roof, qualified medical care is offered for horses, dogs, cats and other small animals. In addition to modern premises adapted to the business, we have access to advanced imaging diagnostics and a veterinary specialist laboratory. UDS's operations also include an outpatient clinic that travels to stables and farms to examine and treat horses and farm animals.

The horse clinic receives approximately 5,000 horses annually. We currently have approximately 50 employees and are part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, which in turn has approximately 340 employees. The clinic currently has three units: An outpatient clinic with orthopedic and medical cases, specialist clinics in respiration, dentistry, dermatology and ophthalmology. Inpatients, with both surgical and medical cases. As well as an surgery department with both planned and emergency procedures. The clinic receives patients 24 hours a day, all year round.
