Women in Crisis Settings – transforming gaps into synergies
Welcome to a webinar on how to achieve better outcomes for all across the humanitarian, development and peace nexus in the Decade of action.
Progress from recent decades is at risk given the challenges the world is currently facing: conflicts and humanitarian crisis, the climate crisis, COVID-19, inequality including gender inequality, curtailed democracy and shrinking democratic space. Gender-based violence has increased up to 40% in some contexts. And in 2021 an additional 47 million women and girls risk being pushed into extreme poverty.
There is a need to better understand the linkages between gender inequality, conflict and fragility in different contexts. Women and girls and their agency, rights and needs are disproportionately affected. To succeed in accelerating our delivery on the 2030 Agenda, the specific challenges and opportunities for gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment in crisis settings need to be a priority.
The Decade of Action offers promises of turning the tide on gender equality and transform promises into action for a more gender equal, inclusive and more sustainable future for all. There is a momentum around emerging evidence on the humanitarian-development-peace nexus in which increased collaboration, coherence and complementarity should be based on shared risk-informed and gender sensitive analysis.
This virtual Development Talks will gather leaders and practitioners from global and local level to learn more about emerging evidence and on how to achieve results. The session will share insights into how the COVID-19 pandemic can be an opportunity for igniting change in the Decade of Action, turning our attention to the role of local solutions to reverse the trend in the most challenging of crisis settings, and ensure we leave no one behind.
Welcome to join!
The event will be broadcasted on this livestream.
