Zoom Seminar: Microplastic and global change effects in terrestrial ecosystems

A Zoom seminar with Professor Matthias Rillig from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.

Microplastics are a new factor of global change with impacts on soil and terrestrial ecosystems. Viewing microplastics as a global change factor has a number of consequences for study design, compared to a more traditional ecotoxicological perspective.

Microplastics can influence soil physical properties, plants, community composition and ecosystem process rates. Microplastic is but one element of global change, with global change factors spanning a wide range of drivers. The last part of the task deals with the question how we can address the effects of multiple, concurrently acting global change factors.
