Alberto Maria Cattaneo

Alberto Maria Cattaneo
As a researcher I have 10 years of professional experience with expertise in molecular biology, including 2 year of functional characterization of insect and mammalian receptors in heterologous cell systems, 4 years of insect electrophysiology and 1 year of plant biotechnologies. I have authored or co-authored 12 peer-review scientific articles and 1 book. I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher in the division of Chemical Ecology of the Department of Plant Protection Biology in collaboration with the Centre of Integrative Genomics of the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and with the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience of the University of Florida. My activity spread among molecular and cell biology, Drosophila genetics, and electrophysiology, like single sensillum recording (SSR) and Gas-chromatographic GC-SSR.

Research methodology/expertise skills

Identification and cloning of chemosensory receptors of insects

Heterologous expression and functional characterization in empty neurons of D. melanogaster - single sensillum recording (SSR) and GC-SSR

Heterologous expression and functional characterization of IRs, ORs and TRP channels of insect and mammals by the use of cell-based methods (HEK293) and Ca++/Na+/K+ cation-imaging

Molecular targets

Insect Ionotropic Receptors (IRs), Olfactory Receptors (ORs/PRs) and Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) channels
